BOARD GAMES
The long time classic, board games are still very popular today. These are games that usually consist of a board, dice, game pieces, and usually playing cards as instructions for the player to go on each turn. Dice do not have to be standard in this game like the six-sided dice in Yahtzee. A game such as Headache creates the "Pop-o-Matic" where you push the bubble down, and the dice inside pop. Other dice have many sides such as the twenty-sided die from the game Scategories, which contains the letters of the alphabet (excluding letters Q, U, V, X, Y and Z).Board games are usually meant to challenge the mind, and pit you against other players or teams. Some games are short, sweet, and to the point, while others can last hours or days. Longer games include Monopoly (taking over every piece of land and making the other players bankrupt) and Risk (taking over the entire world by force).
Board games have to adapt with the times to keep up with the trends and keep from being outdated by video games. There are versions of Monopoly for almost any thing you can think of. Any new trend comes out with its own board games (ie: trading card games and board games based on the Star Wars movies). The games Browsergames become more electronic so that kids today will want to play them. Life's newest version comes with a "credit card" that you put into your electronic counter and it keeps track of all of your stats in the game. Essentially, board games are becoming video games, while still trying to retain their old-fashioned flair.
Under the category of board games also resides card games. This can range from trading card games to poker and solitaire with a Hoyle deck. Trading card games come and go as fads, urging players to collect as many cards as they can and trade with others. In many trading card games the cards have stats, and the players "duel" or "battle" (compare the stats) to see who wins. Sometimes these games are played for keeps. Player be warned: trading card games can get very addicting and expensive.
